New in Beauty

I’ve always been a sucker for new beauty trends and products, and it definitely doesn’t help quell my obsession when the products I try end up being amazing. Even though this beauty habit has me constantly cleaning out my makeup bags, I can’t truly complain about an obsession that introduces me to better and healthier beauty products, right?

Now, with my new monthly series called “New in Beauty,” I will be continuously sharing with you my latest beauty discoveries and where to get them for yourselves! Start clearing up your makeup counter now because here is my latest and greatest find from this month!

Glo Minerals Luxe Liquid Foundation – $54.00 (in natural)

This foundation was actually given to me by my mother, who was told about the mineral makeup by a well-respected dermatologist. As it’s a brand that has received raving reviews from skin professionals around the country, she knew it would be something that I’d want to test out. Well, I gave it a try and fell in LOVE! My handy drugstore foundation is now in the trash and replaced by my Glo Minerals makeup! I really love it because I only have to use a pea-sized amount to achieve an even complexion, long-lasting coverage, AND a lightweight feel! Plus, the natural shade matches my skin tone perfectly, which has never happened for me in the past.  I definitely recommend this foundation for someone who doesn’t want the heavy feeling of makeup but does want to benefit from the skin protection and coverage!

What To Watch Now: Fed Up

Last night, I watched the documentary Fed Up, and I cannot express how eye opening, scary, and important this film is. It investigates America’s obesity epidemic and why our society is only getting bigger and bigger, despite increases in research and “education.” Even though I’m a very health-conscious person and always reading into the latest health news, I still learned quite a bit about how our minds have been brainwashed about nutrition and health over the years. Everyone being affected by this problem, a.k.a. ALL OF US, should watch this documentary and educate themselves about the foods we’re putting in our bodies. So, put down the Doritos, grab some water, and start watching this on Netflix ASAP!

Here are some disturbing images from the documentary:

Lilly Is Back!

When I first heard that Lilly Pulitizer would be collaborating with Target on a new collection, I couldn’t help but think of the idea as one doomed from the start.  If you’re in your 20s and grew up in the south (yes, southern VA is the south) like me, you most likely were dressed in Lilly Pulitzer from head to toe as a child, and to me, the idea of dressing now like I did as a child just seemed ridiculous.

I vividly remember visiting the adorably decorated Lilly boutique that my mom would take my sister and I to every single time we vacationed at our beach house in Duck, North Carolina. We would go in the shop for hours and come out with bags full of new printed frocks and skirts for school- they were quite the trend for a while.  However, as I reached my teen years, Abercrombie and Fitch and Hollister naturally took the place of Lilly in my and many other girls’ closets. By the time I was in college, I’d pretty much forgotten about the brand and its signature tropical prints, but little did I know that there were still plenty of women, especially living in the south, who still swore by their Lilly Pulitzer collection!  Still, as it was no longer my style, I hadn’t given the brand much of a second thought until hearing about this collaboration with Target, which has previously been led by top brands such as Missoni and Phillip Lim.

In my opinion, this collaboration means that Lilly is ready for a comeback in the fashion industry, and after putting aside my preconceived opinions and browsing through their lookbook, I think that their strategy by teaming up with one of the country’s largest budget retailers will prove to be a good one. As today is the day that the collection finally goes on sale, we will soon realize how many of our consumers will not only like but actually buy into a Lilly Pulitzer comeback.
