If you know me personally, you probably know that I’m a HUGE dog lover and appreciate a great sneaker. From the classic Chuck Taylor to the super nerdy but awesome Star Wars-themed Vans, I love em’ all. Well, with this knowledge, you can … Continue reading
The over-the-knee boot is by far one of my favorite trends for the fall and winter seasons. Not only is it a comfortable yet stylish way to dress up any fall outfit, but these boots are also sexy as hell. In the past, I’ve normally stuck to wearing boots that are flat instead of heeled, but this past week, I decided to venture outside my comfort zone and treat myself to a new pair of HEELED over-the-knee boots. I spotted them immediately when they were put out onto the women’s shoe floor at Nordstrom, knowing that they would be the perfect statement piece to plan my going-out outfit around that night. After wearing my bold, yet confident purchase, I was more than happy about my decision and satisfied that I finally added something to my wardrobe that I didn’t already own. These hot boots are perfect for any night out on the town and are guaranteed to make you feel like you CAN run the world (if you didn’t already). You can simply throw them over some leggings or even rock them out with a mini skirt to make the ultimate fashion statement, so check out some of my favorite heeled AND flat over-the-knee boots for a little inspiration to get you started on your fall shopping list!

HAPPY THURSDAY EVERYONE!
Since I’m currently the Men’s Shoes Assistant Manager at the Tyson’s Corner Nordstrom AND the rockin’ Anniversary sale is underway at my store, I figured that I owe it to ALL of you classy men out there to give you a little peek into my favorite styles on sale right now. In my opinion, one can learn a lot about a man solely by his shoes (pun intended). For example, they can reveal his attention to detail, knowledge of fashion, career path, care (or lack thereof) for appearance, and even his maturity level. Now, there is no need to develop a Carrie Bradshaw-esque collection of shoes; however, investing in some sensible and appropriate pairs can definitely keep your shoe game in check for the next few years. Therefore gents, I suggest that you take a look at my favorite pairs and stop by your local Nordstrom to get your shoe shopping for EVERY occasion done in a single trip! Ready, set, GO!

I became the most avid Star Wars fan before I even started kindergarten (no joke). Even though I don’t exactly remember the first time that I saw the first “episode,” I DO clearly remember the life-sized Luke Skywalker poster hanging on my bedroom door and the kisses I gave poor Mark Hamill every single night before I went to bed. And yes, I was only about 3 years old at the time. Of course, 19 years later and I’m still just as a believer in the force as I was in the beginning. This love for anything and everything Star Wars that I have was recently recalled when I laid eyes upon the most exciting fashion development EVER… STAR WARS THEMED VANS!
I am so glad that companies are finally realizing that mixing awesome Star Wars graphics with classic Vans styling truly make for the coolest pair of shoes to add to the modern-day chic-geek’s wish list…and yes, I did just make that nickname up. I was shopping with my mom in our local mall the other day when my eyes immediately zeroed in on these sweet and unique kicks. Being somewhat of a beach/skater kid growing up, I naturally have a place in my heart for the Vans brand, but the nerdy part of my personality yearned even more for these gems than my fashionista or beachy personas could’ve imagined.
I am very determined to donate a portion of my next paycheck to a pair of these pretty pennies to not only express my pride as a Star Wars fan, but also because I can’t stop thinking about how awesome it would feel to literally be wearing Yoda on my feet all day. For all of my fellow Star Wars-loving fashionistas, to keep your nerdy woes under control while waiting to get a pair of these Vans for yourselves, feel free to follow my lead and munch on what I refer to as my ” Yoda popcorn” (see deets below) while rewatching episodes I-VI. Happy hump day and may the force be with all of you “chic-geeks!” (hehe)

To honor the brand partly responsible for the name of this blog, I feel as if it’s necessary that I give you a look into the Manolo Blanhik Fall 2014 presentation that occurred this past Sunday in NYC. The presentation was beautifully set up and able to display each pair of shoes perfectly, whether they were hanging from the ceiling or perched on a platform. The collection was amazing (as always) and I felt like each shoe was unique and had its own story and inspiration. There were so many different types of shoes on display, ranging from ladylike pumps, tall boots, ankle boots, and even flats, which quite surprised me. I also felt as if the shoes were so different from one another in their inspiration, as the styles varied from historic Renaissance and Art Nouveau inspired looks to some opposing minimalistic and even futuristic-looking themes. Take a look for yourself and prepare to drool over your next dream shoe!
One day over my Christmas break, I was at Saks Fifth Avenue in Richmond, VA with my parents, looking for a few nice coats for my dad. I didn’t want to look at anything that I’d like there because I knew that Christmas was a few days away and I honestly didn’t want any more money spent on me. No matter how determined I was to avoid any shopping, I was eventually enticed by a salesperson to browse the shoe section while waiting for my dad to make his own purchases. Of course, right when I entered the glorious shoe section, I was instantly greeted by the amazing and covetable Stuart Weitzman 5050 boot. I had previously written about this boot on my blog and knew very well of its magnificence. Especially since I’m a boot girl, I knew that these were special and it felt like a crime to even touch them. After my mother caught me admiringly stroking their soft leather, she egged me to try them on “just to see how they look.” I’m not usually willing to get so intimate with such prestigious fashion items because I know I don’t NEED them in the first place, but this time it was too hard to deny my curiosity over how they really looked and felt. After slipping on the one of the last few pairs the store had in stock and the last in my size, I stood up and looked in the mirror with feelings of immense guilt in my head but a ridiculous smile on my face. These boots were awesome and everyone in the area, including my initially hesitant dad, agreed. After a few minutes of admiration, I rushed to take the boots off so that I wouldn’t endure any hard feelings about leaving them behind, since I knew there was no chance that I could ask for these as a gift from my parents. However, by some miracle, both of my parents started telling me how great they looked and in no time I was giving them the biggest hugs ever with a very large bag in my hand. The boots were mine, which was something that I’d never expected. Of course they were an “extra-special” Christmas present and I couldn’t wear them until Christmas day, but nothing could’ve wavered my surprise and happiness that day.
Since Christmas, I’ve worn my boots hesitantly since I don’t want to tarnish their perfection, but whenever I do put them on my feet, they feel amazing. I still feel guilty that I actually let my parents purchase the 5050’s for me, which probably won’t diminish anytime soon, but I’m glad to know that they trust my ability to care for them. As a boot with such versatility, chicness, sexiness, classiness, and functionality, I’m confident that they’re THE iconic piece in my wardrobe that will always be able to break the style barrier.
Apart from the rise in pumpkin-flavored everything and Thanksgiving around the corner, one of my favorite things about the fall season is being able to dust off my favorite boots! As I said in my previous post, I’m obsessed with comfort, which explains why boots are my favorite type of shoe. If it was fashionably acceptable, I’d even wear boots over flip flops during the hot southern months. To celebrate this new fall season and my obsession with the current “bootie” trend, I’d like to show you a few of my favorite pairs of booties from my own closet as well as those on my wish list!

Over the summer, I bought my second pair of converse sneakers (the first pair I owned was no longer useful when my foot grew past a size 6). After a few quick try-ons, I ended up choosing a pair of light grey high-top chucks for a few reasons. First, the grey color is a neutral that goes nicely with almost everything and isn’t the usual black or white that everyone else seemed to have at the time. Second, my old green Chuck Taylors from middle school were low-tops, so I felt like I had to venture out of my comfort zone and go with the high-tops. Also, in my opinion, the high-tops are trendier than the low-tops but can still be worn until they’re falling apart and without regard to where they stand in the fashion cycle. In my book, Converse sneakers are a classic style.
Unfortunately, I haven’t worn my new pair as much as I’d like to, but hey, owning them at least makes me feel cool like my punk middle school self was. Don’t get the wrong idea though, I didn’t buy them just because they were “cool” and the streets of Soho were full of them. They are actually awesome shoes that come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Chucks are also one of the few types of shoes that both the cool kids and bookworms can rock. The fashion leaders AND the fashion laggards rock them. Seriously, when I see middle school kids get off the bus wearing Chuck Taylors, I have to resist the urge to snap a picture of them to later put on my Pinterest fashion board. These shoes have the comfort of a sneaker, look of a cool 90s rocker, and price that makes even the hipsters swoon. Best of all, in my opinion, is that you don’t even have to worry about keeping them clean. Some actually worry about keeping them dirty. I’ve even seen people pulling their fresh sneakers out of the box and straight into puddles and dirt to “rough ‘em up.” Unfortunately, this fantastic thing about Chucks isn’t able to justify my scuffed and stained wedges from a few nights downtown. As shown below, my Chucks clearly haven’t been worn in and dirtied up to the local hipster’s standards, but it’s a start.
Peace, love, and wear your Chucks…
